Before asking about our rescue dogs, please go to pueblocolliesheltie.org and read the Adoption Info section thoroughly. The adoption application can be found there. DJ is a gem in the rough. This beautifully tawny boy came into the rescue in pretty sad shape. He was scared. Terrified. New people filled him with fear, and he refused to look his foster family in the face when he got off of transport. He was nothing but bones, so wasted that his back legs had lost their muscle. He was dirty and matted and his nails were long enough to curl over into his pads. His recent neuter resulted in a nasty case of pneumonia. But we promised we wouldn't give up on him and that he'd be OK. Fast forward two weeks, and the change is REMARKABLE! His pneumonia has abated with a course of antibiotics. He's gained 4 1/2 lbs with nourishing, quality foods. His nails have been cut, he got a much needed and appreciated bath, and much brushing is helping to restore the glory to his coat. What's more impressive, though, is the way his personality is finally shining through. At first, he didn't socialize with the other dogs in his foster house. He ran when humans approached him, and would only allow petting when he was lying in the bed at night. Now, he runs with the pack joyfully, playing tug-o-war with his collie brother and tag-n-nip with the rat terrier baby. He still runs when people approach him, but he happily comes up for petting when his humans sit, lolling his tongue and showing a HUGE sheltie grin. DJ is good with other dogs, big and small, male and female, young and old. He looks to their behavior for confidence. He ignores the family kitties and rats. He is housebroken and loves to be brushed. He is a striking mahogany shaded sable and white, with a flashy snowy ruff and the most piercing and captivating amber eyes. Now that he's healthier, he's showing that he is quick moving and agile, and a good jumper. His favorite thing is sleeping with one of his humans. DJ still needs some time. Time to gain some weight, time for his coat to heal, and, most importantly, time to help him discover who he will be. He doesn't know any commands at this time, but responds to a gentle "no, honey" and adores a happy "good boy!". His foster parents will continue to work with him on confidence, and, hopefully, basic obedience commands.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
