Our first step is an application. If you are interested in any of our rescue dogs, go to our website at pueblocolliesheltie.org and THOROUGHLY read the Adoption Info section. If we sound like the right group for you, we invite you to submit an application, which also can be found on the Adoption Info section of our website. We do not give our information about our dogs without an application. On our homepage recently, you may have seen a very lucky little collie mix puppy from New Mexico named TNT. He was scrawny and filthy and looked a bit like a 'deer in the headlights.' Fast forward to the new and improved "Wiley." Wiley is completely vaccinated, neutered, heartworm tested, well on his way to being housebroken and just about ready to rock and roll. He enjoys the company of other dogs and adores his foster parents. His life is taking a much better direction here in Collie-rado than it had begun in New Mexico. Euthanasia list to pampered pet is a wild ride! What this little fellow is mixed with is anybody's guess. Collie seems to be predominant in his background. In any case, the herding breeds are very people interactive. The dogs want to be close to their people just as the breeds were designed to be close to their flocks. Wiley's current 'pack' includes a couple of other dogs, a couple of cats and a horse or two in addition to two pesky people who refuse to stay put. They move around and go places without the permission of the herding dog. That does not seem right, now does it? When we place a pooch that has not had the best start in life, we try to match the dog with a family that will help make up for the things they have missed out on. His foster mom tells us that he is very quick to learn new things. He watches the other dogs and mimics their behavior to earn the ultimate compliment, "good boy!" Wiley would climb the highest peaks of the Rockies for his foster mom, Eva. Dad is okay too but Mom is for cuddling and nose kisses. Eva describes Wiley as friendly and loyal. He bonds easily and is obviously craving to be a part of a real family. At about six months old, he is ready for the biggest step of his young life. Please read the adoption information section on our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org and then proceed to our online application. Puppies deserve to have humans home with them a good chunk of time so we will give preference to applications with a stay-at-home person and school age kids. But then again we have been known to make exceptions for enlightened human beings. We will look forward to hearing from you.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
