About Orion

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Merle
  • Housetrained: Yes
What is black and white and cute all over? "Orion"! Orion (named after a constellation) is what is known as a bi-blue sheltie. (If he had some tan in the mix of his fur he would then be called a blue merle.) Orion has the most magnificent coat that we have witnessed on a dog in quite some time. It is silky and abundant and the white hair is as white as new fallen snow. He is proud of who he is and it shows in his attitude and even the way he stands and wiggles. Orion has been relinquished by a young couple with a new baby and a very busy way of life. They adored the pooch but there are only so many hours in a day and most of them were filled with more pressing matters. Many tears were shed as Orion was left behind. But a dog as confident as Orion expects things to be good in his life and believes that they will be again. This little guy is five years old and is what we refer to as a 'chunky monkey.' With much more exercise in his foster home and a lower fat kibble, we expect to see the excess weight come off fairly quickly. He has a bubbly personality and seems to have never met a stranger, either person or dog. His manners are good, all the way from being housebroken to sitting for his leash to be put on for a walk. Orion does the traditional sheltie spins when he is excited and might be a candidate for a sport called freestyle, which is dancing with your dog. It takes a smart dog with a sense of fun to dance with a human. Check it out when you have a moment. And check out Orion, the wonder dog! Let's get back to the basics. Orion is neutered and is current on all his vaccinations. He is microchipped with a Home Again and his registration is included with his adoption package. He lost two teeth in his dental, but the rest are now cleaned and polished and looking great. He has been brushed and brushed and brushed a little more. All of his undercoat is out and he now looks like a much slimmer dog. And he is absolutely ready to rock and roll!

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
