About Rexx

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
There is nothing sweeter than a collie puppy! There may be hundreds of other breeds of dogs and lots of them are precious BUT there is absolutely nothing more wonderful than a collie puppy side by side with a 10-year-old boy or girl. Enter "Rexx." Rexx is a tri-colored rough-coat collie. He is just six months old as of August 2, 2011. He has been loved and snuggled with. He has had the best dog food and the company of children who respect him and encourage him to display the most appropriate behavior. But life situations change, often so quickly that it makes your head spin. And now Rexx will be helping to review applications for the family that he will spend the rest of his life with. Rexx has been neutered, completely vaccinated and microchipped. He is heartworm negative and is as healthy as a pooch can be. He is 99% housebroken but will need a reminder occasionally in his new home while he is in transition. He loves other dogs, kids and adult men and women. He seems to have never met a stranger, only folks he has not smooched yet. He will cozy up to you and sit on your foot. He is fascinated by cats and will need to learn boundaries with feline friends. Indoor cats will be family but outdoor cats may be a chance for a game of tag. For those of you who have never lived with a collie, this would be a good time to do some research into various breeds of dogs before you jump into a commitment. Dogs should never be disposable. We bring them into our homes and our lives and they look to us for leadership and companionship. We don't abandon our children because they need work. (Although we may think about it from time to time!) A home for a puppy should have at least some of the family home a good chunk of the day for socialization and training. Lots of gentle hands and praise! The time you spend with a puppy will show up well in the adult dog he becomes. The perfect home for Rexx will be one with kids over the age of 8 who understand about kindness toward animals, a mom or dad who either works from home or at least part-time 'stay at home' parents, a securely fenced yard and a boatload of love to give to a remarkable furry friend.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
