About Cael

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White
  • Housetrained: Yes
Cael is on temporary Medical Hold. Many shelters in our part of the country know that if they have a Collie or Sheltie that tests positive for Heartworm Disease, it is possible that those of us who do breed-specific rescue will find an open spot for that dog and do whatever it takes to bring the dog back to good health. That is the case with this lovely sable-headed white rough Collie named Cael (pronounced Kale with the Celtic spelling). Cael has already had the first part of his heartworm treatment with the next immiticide injection to be done in 30 days. In his honor, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the horror of this disease. There is a comprehensive discussion of heartworm and its causes, with maps showing its geographic distribution, on the American Heartworm Society website. Treatment information and concerns are detailed on the Health Issues page of our website and in Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine’s Multidrug Sensitivity in Dogs. Cael has found a gentle and loving foster home to watch over him while he continues his treatment. And RMCSR, of course, covers all his expenses while he concentrates on getting well. But be aware . . . it is awfully hard not to fall in love with a dog that you watch bloom one day at a time. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our Policies & Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
