Daciana is the quintessential Collie that you may remember from your grandparent's home when you were a child. She is gentle and loving, companionable and friendly to all of God's creatures, large or small. She is nicely made, a good size and conformation. Her ears are silky and tip just the right amount. She love to shake paws and will gaze up at you with love while she does so. Never has a Collie dog had better manners, in or out of the house.
But when you look at Daciana, what you will probably see first is the only thing about her that is not perfect.....her left eye. Dacy has a problem called immune-mediated nodular granulomatous episklero kerititis. No one knows what causes auto-immune issues but they can be brought into remission with vigilant care and kept at bay with that same kind of careful attention from a loving owner. Dr Steve Dugan at Eye Specialists for Animals in Colorado Springs is consulting on Daciana's case and is working hard to bring about a remission. We have a return visit scheduled at the end of June and her foster mom will follow a specific regimen of oral meds and eye drops until then. Daci is the best girl when it comes to any treatment. She believes that we humans only do what is best for her and she is a willing participant in her treatment. She will even wear her "doggles" if we ask politely. (Check them out!)
Daciana's family gave her up for the most noble of reasons. They could no longer afford the care that she needed because of changes in the family's circumstances. They loved her so much that they put Daci's needs ahead of their own. And it was the right thing to do!
It would not be out of the question for Daci's foster mom to discuss her with possible adopters if they have followed our protocol and completed the online application, etc. Bringing this disease into remission is our gift to Daciana. Loving her forever will be someone else's gift to her.
Daciana is currently on medical hold. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog.
