Have you ever seen 16# of pure puppy silliness? Meet Rascal! This very lucky little pooch came from a euthanasia list at a municipal shelter. (I can't even wrap my brain around that.) It is possible that he has a dab of Sheltie mixed in with his Border Collie genes, but we believe he is mostly Border Collie. At six months of age, he is neutered, completely vaccinated and micro-chipped with a Home Again chip. And smart??? Rascal has figured out the "dog pack" hierarchy at our Director's home, will sit for a biscuit unless he gets distracted and would not dream of soiling his kennel area. He adores the little girl that cuddles him and will snuggle into your neck and give you a nose nuzzle when he is sleepy. Puppies are bundles of energy that need to have that energy directed in positive ways. If a pup is left to run amok in your home, it will not be a pleasant experience for you or the dog. All the complex wiring to your electronics...eaten in a flash! Your grandmother's Persian rug...chewed beyond recognition! These things are not the dog's fault. He should not be punished for exploring his universe with all of his senses. Humans should have the good common sense to use a kennel when the puppy cannot be watched, like overnight, so that you both can get a good night's sleep. And tie him to you with a leash as you go about your daily chores, so that the little tyke has the benefit of your voice and your hands. Read books about how to stimulate a dog's mind and encourage your children to do the same. Please make sure that you have read our adoption information section completely before you inquire about Little Rascal. He needs just the right environment to become all the dog he can be. No toddlers, fenced yard a must, and a motivated adult to be home with him a good chunk of the time. And, boundless love to be shared. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
