THE FIRST STEP TOWARD ANY ADOPTION IS A COMPLETED APPLICATION WHICH YOU WILL FIND ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.collieshelteirescue.org.  THE MORE INFORMATION YOU CAN SHARE WITH US, THE BETTER WE CAN HELP GUIDE YOU TO A PERFECT MATCH FOR YOUR FAMILY.

Bunnicula is one of the most unique names for a Collie puppy that we have ever heard of.  (The foster family always gets to name the newborns.)  I had to look up the name and discovered that Bunnicula is a Bunny/Vampire combo that sucks the juice out of vegetables!!  LOL

Bunnicula is an 9-week-old smooth Collie puppy that is fun-loving and fearless.  There is no obstacle too high to keep him from exploring.  He is joyous and friendly and outgoing.  His foster mom thinks he would be a great hiking companion or agility prospect.  Julie describes him as "a very handsome gentleman who puts on his tuxedo every morning."  The smooth coated Collie is still a double coated dog that is identical to a rough coated Collie (like Lassie) in structure except the length of the fur is shorter.  So you will have just as much fluff to clean up.  It will just be shorter fluff.

Please read about the basic requirements for adoption when you are on the website to complete the online application.  A securely fenced yard is a must.  When we call your veterinarian to ask for a reference, your vet must rave about how meticulous you are with whatever care is best for your dog.  And we will either do a home visit or ask for digital photos of both the fenced backyard and interior of your home.  We are not interested in your decorating ideas.  We want to be sure that your environment is conducive to having a puppy around.  About 10 years ago, we got a Sheltie application that sounded terrific.  I got to arrange the home visit and was greeted with enthusiasm by the potential Sheltie parents.  I stepped inside to see nothing but cream colored carpet and furniture, all of which was obviously new and fresh.  I asked the question about how they would feel is the dog had a potty accident and I was answered with a look of horror.  Nope.  Not the right place for a dog.

When you ask yourself if this is the right time to adopt a dog, remember that dogs are little furry beings that mess up your living space and your budget.  But I don't know how to live with them in my life.
