Riley is a 60# young adult rough Collie mix.  He is happy and healthy and very well-adjusted.  He has been in a remarkable foster home with Lisa in Wichita, Kansas for the last few months.  We try to make sure that we have volunteers where they will be needed when a dog is in trouble since we are the only Collie or Sheltie rescue group covering Colorado and Kansas and Wyoming.  And because we are not snobs (which sometimes gets us into trouble!  LOL), dogs like Riley are lucky enough to become RMCSR dogs.

Riley has had all the veterinary care he needs to be ready for his forever home.  Blood work, vaccines, neuter and Home Again microchip.  When he was brought into Cowley County Humane Society by one of their animal control officers, he was in tough shape.  He had either been attacked by coyotes or used as a bait dog, it is difficult to say.  And he had survived on his own for some period of time....thin and frightened and with wounds that needed to be treated.  All of that is behind him now.  From the first moment that he knew he was safe, he melted into loving arms and worked at becoming all the dog he could be.  Humans with gentle hands and loving hearts can make magic.

This precious boy is housebroken and eager to please his family.  He has learned the routine well and is a full-fledged member of the critter pack.  Other dogs are his friends.  Cats are made to cuddle with.  Men, women and older kids are just friends he has not met yet.  He gently herds everyone and it makes Lisa laugh when he tries to herd her with a head butt to her tousche.  His physical wounds have healed and he does not seem to have emotional baggage hanging on.  The only scars that still remain are on his dear little face and a broken ear that doesn't sit quite right.  But his bright and shining soul is just fine.

Please complete the online application on our website if you are interested in more information or to meet Riley.  His foster mom named him Riley because she wanted him to "live the life of Riley." We want that for him too.

From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
