Biggest update ever.....darling Wrigley is being adopted by a dear friend of RMCSR, Dr. Sarah Garland.  Sarah is a life-long Collie lover and a repeat adopter.  And being a Veterinarian, she knows that she is up to the challenge of managing his Diabetes and watching carefully for any signs of his returning auto-immune disorder.  Congratulations Sarah and Jim!  It's a boy!

Update.... Wrigley has an auto-immune disorder that may have been brought on by too many vaccines all at one time as well as flea and tick treatment (internally taken and topically) and general anesthetic for his neuter.  All of that was done with already existing malnutrition, dehydration and wounds on his poor scrawny body from some unknown source.  Collies have very sensitive constitutions and, cumulatively, it caused his body to begin to attack itself.  Auto -immune disorders are a bit complicated to sort out and treat appropriately.  Wrigley has been in our care since 7/31/20 and he is so much better, it seems like magic.  Dr. Jackie Campbell, Veterinary Allergist and Dermatologist "to the stars" sent this note dated August 26.  "Wrigley looks fantastic today!  It is good to see him with hair regrowth and good energy.  His personality is definitely showing.  We are pleased with the control of the skin disease, and since his tummy does not tolerate the higher dose of Cyclosporine, we are fine with the continuation of 100 mg daily."  Dr. Campbell will see Wrigley back in another four weeks and we hope to have only good news to share.  Until then.........

Wrigley came to RMCSR from DDFL on 7/31/2020.  Wrigley is a sable and white rough-coated Collie who was neglected badly and then relinquished to a shelter.  (Some humans do not deserve to have dogs.  HUMAN and HUMANE are often miles apart.)  He is a gentle and amiable fellow that was shaved to the skin in order to treat the wounds on his poor thin body.  Our plans for him will begin with a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Allergist in Colorado Springs.  Dr. Jackie Campbell is delightful to work with and also understands the "rescue component" of this equation.  Years of experience tell us that Wrigley probably has food sensitivities in addition to possible environmental ones.  So we begin on a journey of a diet with a novel protein (rabbit or venison usually to start with), no grains and probably a white potato.  When we can identify what combination works well for him, we will maintain him on that specific diet for now.  The Royal Canin limited ingredient kibbles and canned seem to be the best available.

But we rely on our experts to guide us.  I am just a DOGMOM.  LOL

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
