THIS PUPPY IS COMPLETELY DEAF.  She is being trained by her foster mom with hand signals and a flashlight.  She is very smart and her new humans will have to be at least as smart as she is.

If you look at the photos of this lovely puppy, you will see rough Collie and perhaps Border Collie.  And if you look again, you will see Great Pyrenees.  We identified her Great Pyr heritage by the double dewclaws on her rear feet.  And we had to remove those same double dewclaws because they were floppy and could get caught easily on something.  And a Collie/Great Pyrenees mix is the sweetest, smartest and most fun combo possible.

Lyric is a 9-month-old spayed female who is UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative and healthy in every way.  She has housebroken herself by watching the other dogs in her foster home go out the backdoor and potty outside.  "If they can do it, so can I!"  And she is learning about commands like sit and stay, the really important ones that all good dogs should know.  But with hand signals.  BECAUSE LYRIC IS DEAF.

Don't let that word frighten you away from a great potential companion.  Having a special needs dog just requires a little advanced planning.  A securely fenced yard is imperative for when she is not being directly supervised.  Giving "commands" verbally and by hand signal is always a good idea when training.  If one method does not get the job done, the other might.  As Ed Russell, my favorite trainer, would tell us, teaching her the command "watch me" is the key.  If your dog is watching your face, she will be in sync with what you are asking of her.

Without a completed adoption application, we can't possibly discuss any particular dog with you.  In order to make a perfect match, we need to know about your wants and wishes and then help you find the dog that will fulfill your requirements.  Our application can be found on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org.

Thanks for checking in with us.  We will be watching for you.
