To all 17 families that applied for Reilly, the lovely Collie puppy....

Reilly has gone to his forever home with a wonderful couple that has another rough Collie to romp with and lots of room to run.  I often wish that we could duplicate a particularly special Collie or Sheltie so that we are not disappointing other awesome families.  But each precious life is unique and we try very hard to choose the right match for each dog.  Please send good vibes to Reilly and his new mom and dad.  Congratulations!  It's a BOY!

Reilly came to RMCSR as an adolescent pup without much life experience.  But being with a foster mom that enjoys training has made a huge difference in his behavior and his understanding of the bond that can exist between him and humans.  Pups need firm, loving and consistent training so that they understand their boundaries.  Dogs (and especially Collies) want to be "good dogs" and receive verbal praise or a pat on the head or a yummy treat for doing what we want them to do.

Reilly is a neutered male 11 month old sable and white rough Collie.  He has all the necessary vaccines, fabulous bloodwork and is microchipped.  We took care of his medical needs.  What he needs from his new forever family is to focus on helping him to reach his potential.  Reilly is a "once in a lifetime" pooch.  People will stop you in a park and say, "Where did that gorgeous Collie come from?  My grandmother had a Collie when I was a kid and she was the best dog ever."  He is eager to learn.  He picked up basic commands easily, like sit, lay down, stay and come.  But he also knows "get your ball" and "ouch, too rough."  It would be tragic to have Reilly spend his life alone in a backyard.

We will begin to accept applications as of 2/12/18.  A good potential match must have at least one adult who is willing and able to continue Reilly's training in obedience and beyond.  Over the weekend, Westminster Kennel Club had televised agility trials and it was such a joy to watch all breeds of dogs flying over hurdles and weaving through poles.  The dogs obviously were having a ball.  And the humans were all smiles. Another young dog to play with would be fun for Reilly.  And as a wise trainer once said, tired dogs are good dogs!  Toddlers would be knocked over by an exuberant puppy like Reilly, so no kids under 10 please.  And a six foot fence is a must.

Reilly wants his own people to love.  While he is waiting, he is loving everyone he meets.  What a fabulous dog!

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
