Wichita Lil is an eight-year-old spayed female sable and white rough coated Collie that has come into RMCSR from a municipal shelter in Kansas.  She is overweight by about 15# and has started on what our Director calls the "kibble soup diet" which is a measured quantity of a low fat kibble with a teaspoon of scrumptious canned dog food and some shredded carrots and green beans.  Top it off with some hot water and stir it until the dog is drooling.  In addition to the minor inconvenience of her being chunky, she is heartworm positive and we have begun the preliminary treatment protocol from the American Heartworm Society.  On Day 60 of her ongoing treatment, she will have the first immiticide injection which is a poison that is targeted to kill the heartworms without killing the dog.  Her treatment will continue through Day 120 with additional injections and supportive care.

Darling Lil is a dominant female Collie that might be happiest as an only dog.  She adores her previous Collie companion that is also heartworm positive and has gone into a different foster home while we address his heartworm disease and similar diet needs.  Lil shares walks with the other Collies in her current foster home and has done quite well.

We are looking for what we call a "foster-to-adopt forever home" for Wichita Lil.  RMCSR will pay all the expenses for the heartworm treatment and what the foster adds is love and gentle care.  So far, Lil has shown herself to be equally fond of men, women and a teenage girl.  She gets overly excited by bunny rabbits in the yard but has shared a previous home with cats.  If this beautiful girl reaches out to you, lets start a dialog and see if she might become your next best friend.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
