There is a lovely old song called "I'm Just Wild About Harry" and it brings me joy every time I hear it. The founder of our organization was Harry Amick and he left us to go to the Rainbow Bridge in October. This beautiful rough-coated Collie has been named Wild About Harry in his honor. Harry is an adolescent tri-headed white colored pooch at about a year old. He is neutered, has had all of his vaccines, is micro-chipped with a Home Again chip and has excellent baseline blood work with a negative heartworm test. Housebreaking has come rather easily to Harry although a new family will have to be diligent about getting him outside regularly and praising him for being a doggie genius. Harry is companionable with other dogs and has been known to cuddle up with the resident cat in his foster home. He adores both men and women as any real Collie does. And we can't imagine a Collie without children although Harry has not yet met kids. While Harry was in transport, we discovered some silly little traits that are due to his lack of experience. He did not know how to get in or out of a car. Every time a loud vehicle (especially a commercial truck) went by, Harry barked. We are guessing that he wants to "herd" the truck! But because Harry is smart and a true people pleaser, he is quickly learning what makes his foster mom smile. He adores toys, especially squeaky ones, and will gladly share with his fur-siblings. Since mastering the stairs, he has been up and down so many times that Auntie Sue has lost count. But, as with any young dog, if Harry is left unsupervised you may come home to some unexpected changes in your decor. Stuffing from a pillow looks a lot like snow when it is strewn around the room. Wild About Harry is the quintessential Collie that is every bit as wonderful as Lassie ever was. He is joyous and playful and lovable. And he wants to be settled in his forever home in time to help with Thanksgiving dinner. Let's help him fulfill his Collie-day wish! Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
