About Lela

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
Lela is a 20# bundle of silky-furred, energetic Sheltie. At eight years old, she is recently spayed and has had all the appropriate veterinary care for an adult dog, including a Home Again microchip and registration. Lela plans to make up for the casual care giving of her previous life and enjoys being the center of attention of her foster mom, Virginia. And Virginia is encouraging Lela to enjoy some of the finer things in life that we provide for our beloved dogs, like cushy dog beds and premium quality food. They enjoy taking long walks together while stopping to smell the flowers along the way. Toys hold no interest for little Lela. Even when her foster sister Kimmy grabs a toy and shakes it, it does not seem to be an invitation to play. Lela is a people pleaser. She will make an extremely devoted companion for an older couple or a single person that would like to build an entire existence around a dog. If given the opportunity, Lela would love to be a lap dog. She will meet your gaze without reservations, looking into your eyes and asking the questions of the universe. “Why am I here? Will I get to stay with you forever? Promise me you won’t abandon me.” We see this kind of behavior in dogs on a daily basis. Heartbreaking questions in the eyes of a dog. Please help us answer their questions. Give your love to a senior dog that will give it back to you many times over.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
