Cora is what we call a Little Interloper, a dog of a breed other than a Collie or a Sheltie but with nowhere to go. Cora gave birth to a littler of boxer mix puppies that were all given away to whomever would take them. (Just don’t ask me how I feel about that!!) When the last pup was gone, tiny Cora was put on Craigslist, free to a good home. Who knows where she would ended up? But one of our volunteers saw the posting and asked me to check it out, right here in Pueblo West. I asked to meet the dog, knowing full-well that whatever she turned out to be was just fine with me. What Cora has turned out to be is an 18# Spaniel mix of some kind, with melting brown eyes and a wagging tail. She is housebroken, and someone taught her some basic obedience. Smart, fun and cuddly, she adores children, men and women, other dogs . . . and especially me. Cora is the name she came with but we have added some enhancements. Our 9-year-old granddaughter calls her “Cora-dorable.” My husband thought she needed a middle name so he calls her CoraSue and sings to her from the Buddy Holly tune, if You Knew Peggy Sue. I call her My Little Brown Bean and Where are you, darling? When Cora goes to her forever home, we will all be sobbing and waving, waving and sobbing. Cora is heartworm negative and has good baseline blood work all the way around. She has not put on pounds but she has good muscle tone and a shiny coat, the picture of health. She has all of her required vaccines and is microchipped with a Home Again chip and registration. We needed to wait about 6 weeks past her pups being weaned before we could have her spayed but that has been done. But little Cora does have one issue. She gets carsick! On an empty stomach, on a short trip, in someone’s lap, it doesn’t seem to matter. So this precious little pooch needs to stay home instead of going to pick up the kids from school, or on a camping trip or hiking with mom and dad. Unless someone smarter than I am has any ideas, she will be homebound. (I have tried everything I can think of.)

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
