About Gia

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White
  • Housetrained: Yes
Gia could be a small smooth Collie mix. Or she may never have heard of a Collie and is just a lucky little mutt. Dogs like Gia die every day in every municipal shelter in the country. Young, sweet dogs with tons of potential that may be a bit shy or under socialized. There is no time to work with dogs like Gia in a shelter environment. That is why "rescues" are in existence, to give each companion animal the chance to reach their potential. And every day with every dog, we all do our best. Gia is a young adult spayed female pooch with a good bit of intelligence and a sense of humor. Some tall man in her past was heavy-handed (or maybe abusive) with her and she carries that fear with her to this day. Because Gigi is food-motivated, she trains easily and responds well to directions. Her leash manners are good and that will make for some fun outings. And be sure to bring a couple of tennis balls along. She loves to fetch! Thunderstorms make her uncomfortable and she does well with some of the herbal preparations to reduce her anxiety. She shows her affection with puppy kisses and snuggles. And she sleeps on the foot of her foster parents' bed, curled into a tight ball. How sweet is that? The ideal home for this girl will be one where someone (mom perhaps?) is home a good deal of the time. She does tend to bounce like Tigger, so kids over the age of 10 would be best. A gentle man would round out the family. Good day-to-day interactions like feeding meals and treats from dad's hands will help her to overcome whatever harshness she has known in her past. All the standard things apply. A secure fenced yard is mandatory. Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
